CD Projekt has officially announced a third expansion for The Witcher 3, titled Songs of the Past. The DLC is scheduled for release in 2027, a full 12 years after the original game launched in 2015 and sold over 60 million copies, and 11 years after the second expansion, Blood and Wine, which debuted in 2016. The first expansion, Hearts of Stone, was released in October 2015.

In a press release, CD Projekt revealed that it is co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory, a studio composed of industry veterans who previously worked on The Witcher 3. More details about Songs of the Past are expected in late summer 2026.

The announcement comes as little surprise, as rumors of a secret expansion had been circulating online for some time. One recent report even hinted at a 'Dune-style' setting for the new content. Yesterday, CD Projekt announced an official special anniversary stream for Blood and Wine scheduled for May 28, fueling speculation that the studio would confirm the DLC. They have now done so a day early.

In a social media post, CD Projekt stated that with new content coming to The Witcher 3, the system requirements will need to be updated "to ensure smooth performance and compatibility going forward." These new requirements will take effect with the next update.

"We originally planned to make this big reveal during our REDstreams tomorrow, but let's say we found something we didn't yet expect on RED Launcher," CD Projekt added.

This is an incredibly busy time for CD Projekt. Development on The Witcher 4 continues, although the studio has cautioned fans not to expect its release until at least 2027. The company has an ambitious six-year roadmap that also includes plans for The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6.

While further DLC for The Witcher 3 is now confirmed, CD Projekt has ruled out additional content for Cyberpunk, suggesting fans will have to wait for Cyberpunk 2 to return to that dystopian universe. And that wait may be significant; Cyberpunk 2 is further behind The Witcher 4 in development, and co-CEO Michał Nowakowski has indicated it won't launch until at least 2030.

However, more Cyberpunk content is coming soon outside of video games. CD Projekt has announced a panel dedicated to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, offering fans a closer look at the highly anticipated standalone series. The panel is set for July 3 at 7:30 PM PT.
