'I'd Take It in a Second' — Cyberpunk 2077 Player Surge Sparks Calls for CD Projekt to Reverse Course on More DLC

Cyberpunk 2077 is experiencing a major resurgence, fueled by a recent Steam sale, anticipation for the upcoming Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, and its crossover with Wuthering Waves. Despite CD Projekt's previous statements that no more DLC is planned, fans are urging the developer to reconsider, especially given that The Witcher 3 is still receiving new content.

Earlier this month, CD Projekt announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 40 million copies since its December 2020 launch, up 5 million since November 2025. The game has only received one expansion so far: 2023's Phantom Liberty, featuring Idris Elba.

In May, CD Projekt reiterated that it has "no plans" for further Cyberpunk 2077 DLC or expansions, disappointing fans still hungry for more content. This suggests players will have to wait for Cyberpunk 2 to return to the beloved dystopian universe. However, that wait could be long; Cyberpunk 2 is behind The Witcher 4 in development, and co-CEO Michał Nowakowski hinted it won't release until at least 2030.

On July 5, Cyberpunk 2077's peak concurrent player count on Steam exceeded 100,000—the highest since 2023. Associate game director Paweł Sasko tweeted, "Have fun my dears, hope it’s going to keep you hooked, entertained, and inspired."

With this player surge, fans are again calling for new content. A Reddit thread titled "Yeah, we are gonna need that second DLC CDPR!" garnered 12,000 upvotes. One fan joked, "Honestly, they need some money so give us a dlc so we could give you more money!"

Another fan expressed, "I would die if this game got another DLC... This is one of my favorite games of all time... I don’t even know what the DLC would be about but damn it do I want another more than any other game right now."

A more serious fan noted, "It’s a slap in the face The Witcher 3 is getting another DLC... why is an 11-year old game with heaps of DLC still getting new shit and the newer title isn’t?"

One player said, "I’m just wrapping up my first playthrough... A new DLC would wreck my plans to move onto my backlog, but I’d f***ing take it in a second lol."

Some speculate that CD Projekt may eventually release new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC closer to the next game's launch, similar to The Witcher 3. For now, the official stance remains no new DLC is in development. But given that The Witcher 3 DLC was also unannounced for years before being confirmed, there's always hope.
